Mission
The Mission of the North-East Regional
Health Authority is, in partnership with other stakeholders, to
promote the physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and
enhanced quality of life for the residents of St. Ann, St. Mary
and Portland. This by empowering individuals and communities and
ensuring access to adequate health care through the provision of
cost effective, promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative
services.

The NERHA has responsibility over
a health network of seventy-five (75) health centers with different
degrees of resolution capabilities. There are four (4) General Hospitals,
one (1) Type B, the regional referral Hospital in St. Ann’s Bay,
St. Ann, and three (3) Type C hospitals one (1) in Port Antonio
Portland, and one (1) each in Annotto Bay and Port Maria in St.
Mary.
The North-East Region is an important
and world famous tourist destination, contributing significantly
to the economy of Jamaica.
It is home to the world famous Dunn’s
River Falls in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, which is visited by thousands
of tourists annually. There are forty (40) hotels in the Region,
many of them homegrown, and are internationally known for their
high quality service. There are over forty three (43) tourist attractions,
which are visited not only by the stop-over guest in the hotels
but by the over one million cruise ship passengers and crew that
visit Ocho Rios annually.
There has been significant new development
in tourism in Portland. Cruise ships have begun to arrive there
again and this is expected to further increase tourism activities.
Other major economic contributions
are from bauxite mining in St. Ann, and the export of green bananas
from Port Antonio.
