St. Ann Celebrates Move for Health Day 2011

Can you dance Dinki Mini?  Well the Dinki Mini Competition was just one of the few highlights at St. Ann’s Move for Health Day 2011. This was held on May 10, 2011 at the Lime Hall Community Centre Sports Complex.

The St. Ann Health Education and Promotion Department collaborated with the National Council for Senior Citizens in the commemoration of MOVE FOR HEALTH DAY 2011. Move for Health Day is aimed at promoting physical activity among the populace. This year, it was commemorated with a Parish Sports Day for Senior Citizens. This saw seniors coming from different communities in St. Ann participating in a variety of sporting competitions. Some of these competitions include 50,100, 200, 400 and 800 meters race. Novelty games such as Lime and Spoon, Sack Race and Needle and Thread Race were obviously fun and enlightening for the seniors. The football competition among seniors from Runaway Bay proved to be most interesting and humourous. They were awarded a special prize for their spirited efforts.

Many different organizations mounted booths on various issues related to senior citizens and other community issues. Some of these organizations include, Diabetes Association of Jamaica, National Health Fund, T- Geddes and Grant, Path, RGD, Jamaica Cancer Society, NIS, Sigma Nursing School (First Aid), HEART/NTA and many others.

Sponsors for the day include Grace; who provided ‘goodie bags’ to patrons. Other sponsors include Noranda Bauxite Partners, Nestle, Lasco, First Regional Cooperative Credit Union, Scotia Bank, National Youth Service and many others.

Individual medals and trophies were awarded to winners and their respective teams. Curious youthful onlookers no doubt were reminded that fun in physical activity has no age limit.
