NERHA Probes allegations of negligence at St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital

The North-East Regional Health Authority (NERHA) is aware of the allegations in the public space regarding the death of a mother who delivered her baby at the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital on Friday, August 12, and wishes to advise that the necessary investigations have been launched to probe the circumstances surrounding her death.

The 33-year-old mother, who delivered her baby on Wednesday, August 12, developed complications after childbirth and despite immediate surgical intervention, subsequently succumbed to the effects of these medical complications. NERHA recognises that no words can lessen the pain of losing a mother, a sister, niece, loved one or friend, and expresses its heartfelt sympathies to the family during this time.

NERHA and the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital have heard the family’s concerns and understand their desire for clear, honest answers. To this end, a meeting is being scheduled with the family members to share our preliminary findings and to respond to their queries and concerns. A comprehensive investigative process and clinical review of the case have been initiated, and it would be inappropriate and premature to draw conclusions before that process is complete.
NERHA remains committed to engaging directly with the family and ensuring that their concerns are properly documented and addressed. Our thoughts remain with the family during this extremely difficult time. We remain committed to responding with compassion, accountability, and respect.
